Inside Our Collaborative Design Process

By APdS Studio

Architecture is inherently collaborative. No single person, however talented, can deliver a complex building alone. At APdS, collaboration isn't just a working method — it's a design philosophy.

The Design Workshop

Every project begins with a design workshop that brings together architects, engineers, landscape designers, and — crucially — the client. These intensive sessions generate ideas rapidly and test them against practical constraints in real time.

We use physical models, quick sketches, and digital tools in parallel. Some ideas emerge best from a hand drawing; others need the precision of 3D modelling to be properly understood.

Cross-Disciplinary Thinking

Our team includes specialists in sustainability, heritage, computational design, and construction technology. But we resist siloed thinking. A structural engineer might suggest a spatial idea; a sustainability consultant might inspire a formal concept.

The best design solutions often emerge at the intersection of disciplines — where structural logic meets spatial poetry, or where environmental strategy generates architectural beauty.

Client as Collaborator

We see our clients not as recipients of a service but as active participants in the creative process. Their knowledge of their needs, their aspirations, and their constraints is essential design input. Regular workshops, shared digital models, and honest dialogue keep the project aligned with their vision.
